Who We Are
BookBreak Reading Log is a school reading log operated by BookBreaks LLC for K-12 schools and districts. We provide tools for school staff to manage rosters, reading logs, family access links, outreach, and reading challenges.
Student and Family Information
Students and families use secure access links instead of password accounts. We collect the limited information needed to operate the school’s reading program, such as student name, grade, classroom assignment, parent or guardian contact emails, reading logs, challenge participation, and access-link status.
Students cannot socialize with other students through BookBreak Reading Log. Parent and student access is limited to the records and reading activity associated with that family.
Teacher and Administrator Accounts
Teachers and administrators sign in with staff accounts. We may collect staff names, email addresses, school or district affiliation, role, classroom assignments, invite status, and product activity such as last login or actions taken in the dashboard.
How We Use Information
- Provide the reading log, roster tools, family links, outreach, challenges, and reporting.
- Support schools, troubleshoot issues, and protect account security.
- Send service messages, invitations, and family outreach requested by school staff.
- Improve the reliability, accessibility, and usefulness of the platform.
- Meet contractual, legal, audit, FERPA, COPPA, and school-record obligations.
Cookies and Automatic Data
We use essential cookies and session storage to keep users signed in and to protect form submissions. Server logs may record browser, device, IP address, access time, and pages visited so we can maintain the service and investigate security issues.
How We Share Information
We do not sell or rent student, parent, teacher, or administrator information. We share data only with the school or district that controls the records, with service providers that help us operate the platform, or when required by law or necessary to protect rights and safety.
Retention, Access, and Deletion
School and district records are retained only as needed to provide the service, comply with contracts and laws, and support school operations. Authorized school administrators can export data and request deletion workflows. Families should contact their school first for student-record requests; we will work with the school to support appropriate access, correction, or deletion.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards, including encrypted connections, access controls, hashed passwords for staff accounts, and monitored hosting environments. No online system can be guaranteed perfectly secure, but we take protection of school data seriously.
Children’s Privacy
BookBreak Reading Log is designed for school-supervised educational use. We process student information as a service provider or school official at the direction of schools and districts, consistent with FERPA and COPPA responsibilities.
